| ALGIES BAY, NEW ZEALAND-(24-4-2003) Sailors raced until the early hours of the evening today in Day Two of the Yachting New Zealand YouthSail Regatta, completing four further races in the series.
All trial classes (Laser, Europe, 420, Mistral Board) remain close, showing depth amongst the youth of yachting in New Zealand, which looks great for a promising future in the sport with these sailors taking over today’s champions in years to come.
Luke Judge remains the leader in the Laser class, winning 5 of the 6 races so far. The race for second and third remains close between Thomas Powrie and Blair McLay 10 points back. Both McLay and Judge are representing Torbay Boating Club, showing their coaching programme is working successfully.
Europe dinghy sailors Jo Aleh and Jane Macky continue changing places on the race course to remain on equal points. Both Macky and Aleh have competed against each other numerous times over the years, both victorious against the other at various events.
Boardsailor David Robertson has a clean slate on the scoreboard, winning all 6 races so far finishing a good distance ahead in each of the races. Anna Eason lies only 2 points ahead of fellow sailor Hayley Thom.
The 420 double handed class couldn’t get any closer between first and second. Scott Kennedy/Alastair Thompson lie only one point ahead of Myles Cleave/Nicholas Sayes. Cleave/Sayes lead the last race, only to be passed by Kennedy and Thompson on the final leg to the finish. This regatta could go down to the final race between these hot crews. In the women’s fleet Olivia Powrie/Sarah Bilkey lie in 4th overall (1st women) and 24 points ahead of the next placed women’s crew.

It’s the battle of the Auckland yacht clubs in the Starling Class with Murrays Bay Sailing Club sailor Max Andrews on equal points with Kohimarama Yacht Club sailor Luke Adams. These sailors are dominating this 30 boat fleet, 21 points ahead of 3rd place.
In the 29er skiff class, Dunedin sailors Peter Graham/George Wills showed their World Championship campaign is on track, 9 points ahead of second placed sailors Jim Maloney/Jimmy Maloney.
P Class sailor Michael Langley has won 5 of the 6 races with Napier sailor James Sandall in second. In the Splash class, Brett Elstob lies 7 points ahead of Andy Maloney.
